Like Crystal Palace vs Brighton, our games against Croft have taken on something of a local rivalry that isn’t local but have a bit of an edge to them. Bright sunshine and a crisp morning welcomed a team of 7 girls.

With our regular GK unable to join the match, Erin took on the gloves and had a quiet 1st half but was brave when called into action. She had superb protection in defence from the always calm Olivia and the all-action wing back talents of Ruby.

From the kick off, Rugby put on early pressure and runs from Annabelle and Sophia created chances. With a faster tempo and an awareness of taking quick throw-ins, some nice passing enabled a through ball to Sophia who marked her return with a super finish.

With good passing and commitment in the tackle from Anya and Annabelle in midfield, Rugby continued to press from midfield and Sophia was able to finish off the move. More quick thinking, fast throws and good passing from Ruby allowed Chloe to finish into the corner. With more confidence, the passing continued to be more decisive than in previous weeks and the self-belief was growing.

In the second half, Olivia went into goal for the first time and provided some smart saves. The action continued to be at the other end, with a neat corner move allowing Anya to hit a fierce shot.

The front three of Erin, Sophia and Chloe continued to put pressure on the defence, with a good run from Erin, a neat 1-2 with Chloe and superb finishing on the rebound from Sophia showing the benefits of teamwork. The midfield continued with some tough tackling and great commitment and the girls seemed to revel in getting stuck into the challenges and getting the shirts dirty.

Even when Erin had to go off injured, chances continued to be created and Sophia capped off a player of the match performance with a further strong effort.  With Annabelle now in control of defence, Ruby was able to push further forward and finished off a super through ball .
