The emphasis for the U15s was again a game-on-game improvement. When we faced Oadby away earlier on in the season, we lost 6-1, so we were very keen to see what notable improvement we could make.
With our keeper unavailable, defender Ellie took position between the sticks and a slight reshuffle of team positions was needed both before and during the game.
Our defensive team of a rotating Hannah, Ella, Robyn, Cara , Sophie and Izzy generally had a very positive game. Oadby were continually pushed to the side lines as the Rugby team remembers the punishment we received down the middle in our last encounter, and Rugby effectively neutralised this threat during the game.
The midfield of Rosie, Priya, Evie, Kelsey and at times Sophie and Robyn worked well to create forward play and some good battles were seen on the wings. Tash and Sophia K put in a really decent shift up front.
It is fair to say that Rugby dominated much of the play throughout the game, lots of action was seen in the middle of the pitch and Rugby were very good at preventing effective counter attacks.
The Rugby girls will be reflecting on a number of chances which went begging from Kelsey, Sophia and Tash and really we were unlucky not to achieve at least a draw from this game.
However, a massive improvement from when we last faced Oadby, showing that despite the result, the U15 team have progressed very well this season and there is no doubt they will continue to do so.
Rugby Town 2 – 3 Oadby Owls
Scorers: Sophia K and Kelsey
POM: Tash for determined forward play and Ellie for a strong display in gaol.
