Rugby’s tough season continues, and the focus is now placed upon improvement game on game.   Having already lost the home fixture against Coalville 0-4, the team were asked to work on improving on this performance with emphasis on communication and possession.

The first half was very positive indeed and after holding back significant pressure from Coalville in the opening 10 minutes, Rugby settled into the game and were starting to look more confident with forward play.

Some recent position changes, notably Ava and Kelsey, are really working out well for the whole team,  providing coverage in the midfield and pace down the right wing.

Sophia had a commanding half with great control of the goal excellent comms with the defenders.   The defenders also had a strong half with some clever defending, showing support to each other and the team. Midfield and forwards were battling hard to regain and retain possession and move the press forward.   Overall, a very pleasing first half

The first 20 mins of the second half also proved success for the Rugby team, visible in their effort and work rate as they continued to frustrate the opposition by not letting and clear runs at the Rugby goal.

Ava, Kelsey, Sophia, Priya and Tash were really pulling out all the stops to try and push for an opening goal, and their perseverance paid off, resulting in Rugby taking the lead, courtesy of Priya.

Rugby confidence soared after they scored, and the energy and enthusiasm increased.   When they linked their passes, some nice football was emerging, and Rugby were certainly holding the cards.

In the dying embers of the game, Coalville were desperate to grab the equalizer and an inexplicable 5 mins occurred with some defensive confusion and errors, allowing 3 goals to be conceded.

Although the team were extremely disappointed with the result, they need to remember they were tasked with improving upon their last result, which they achieved.

Continued focus on communication and accurate passing in training will bear fruit if the team work hard and their next league win will surely not be far behind.
