Whetstone Vixens vs Rugby Town Girls U12

12th December kick off 10.30

Team – Layla, Ria, Izzy, Olivia, Sophie, Ronnie, Isobel, Freya, Jasmine. Sophia

Team Sponsor – Pink Chocolate

A much milder morning greeted the girls this week as they made the much shorter than usual journey away to Whetstone FC.  The girls again found themselves up against it numbers wise and so had some much appreciated help from some familiar Town faces this week.

The girls took a while to get going early doors as they tried to come to terms with each other and the adjustments in the teams roles.  Sadly a much improved Whetstone (from previous meetings) took advantage of this uncertainty and meant the girls would have to fight there way back into things.

This they did as they dug there boots in and started to pull themselves back into the game coming close several times but again just not having the clinical finishing that’s been lacking of late. Always lots of great effort and attacking play but struggling to capitalise on pressure created. However a sublime bit of play and speculative long shot from Freya found the top far corner from a long way out (Ronaldo eat your heart out).

The Half time whistle came not to long after where the girls retired to the sidelines to regroup.

Second half continued from where the first half had ended with a fairly well matched and entertaining game throughout with some girls getting some uncalled for attention at times but dealing with it superbly, giving as good as they got for sure and definitely showing in some cases how the girls really are fighting for each other more and more as team bonds are being created deeper into the season.

The game looked to be going out to finish as a score draw but the girls again got caught out following a corner (something that’s happened a few times recently) but it did take a superb long distance shot through the crowd of players to beat a sprawling Layla, which is no mean feat at all.

The girls did pile on some late pressure and shots towards the end but unfortunately the game closed out as it was and so the girls were narrowly defeated.

In true Layla fashion the class and sportsmanship shone through as she approached the away teams winning goal scorer to applaud her effort – well done Layla!

Another close game and another one they really could have won comfortably given a pick up in capitalising on scoring opportunities and more hunger for the ball in other areas but these girls just keep going regardless of what obstacles are put in front of them each week – it will come!!

We go again girls!!

Players of the match –

Freya for sublime goal and effort and Layla for her usual great goalkeeping and obviously her class shown following the match!
