Rugby Town u12 Lionesses hosted third placed AFC Market Bosworth having had three weeks without a match.
Rugby Town made a positive start, and it initially looked like they weren’t suffering from the break in football. However as the first half progressed, it was clear that Rugby were struggling to keep the pressure on the Bosworth team who were passing the ball well.
Rugby were allowing the opposition far more time than they would normally, and Rugby did finally conceded an unfortunate opening goal.
This was followed later with 2 great finishes by Bosworth making it 0-3 at halftime.
During the break, the girls did not let their heads drop and were told to put it behind them and concentrate on the second half.
Rugby came out in the second half a new team. They were quicker to the ball, pressuring the opposition into making mistakes and the Rugby girls were far more consistent all round.
Emmi in goal had a great second half. She made some great saves, and coming off her line to cut out the danger early.I heard several positive comments by the opposition manager and lineman, and not for the first time this season.
Maddie, Beth and Alice were looking more composed, and back to a more coordinated unit. They marked closely and cleared their lines well, to help keep a clean sheet in the second half.
El, covered every inch of the pitch today and was very productive. Making important tackles and some lovely attacking moves.
Ameila, Katie, Sophia and Elisa also had a great second half, and made some important passes and tackles. And contributed well to the second half performance.
As the second half developed, there were some great moves by Rugby. There were 3 really good through balls by Rugby which opened up the Bosworth defence.
Matilda made two fantastic through balls, one of which allowed a great 1v1 with the Bosworth keeper, and was unlucky not to be finished by Jess. Matilda has really developed in the deeper midfield roll, where she can release the early ball.
Another nice through ball, this time by Katie, again allowed Jess to burst forward. This finally resulted in a deserved Rugby goal.
With the through balls she was now getting, Jess was able to make several runs at the Bosworth defence, and was unfortunate not to have finished the game with 2 goals. She chased every opportunity which is great to see from a striker.
It was good to see the girls keep up the effort and win the second half. This kind of effort will be rewarded in other games.
Parent’s player: Katie for a battling performance and creating the goal.
Manager’s player: El for a strong performance with some great passing and tackling throughout both halves of the game.
Thank you to Pete for his assistance, and running the line. Also to the parents for their continued support.
Full-time 1-3.
