Rugby Town Girls U12 Lionesses vs FC Burbage

Sunday 3rd October 2021

Sponsor: FORD Bros Building & Electrical.

Squad: Alice, Amelia, Beth, El, Elisa, Emmi, Jess, Katie, Lola, Maddie, Matilda, Sophia.

Rugby Town u12 Lionesses hosted FC Burbage with a full squad for the first time, and were keen to continue their great work so far this season.  Both teams were clearly determined pick up maximum points from the game, as the tempo started high, and just didn’t drop.

Burbage played an attacking formation and this meant the Rugby defence had to deal with this extra pressure from the additional forward. Rugby continued with their diamond formation in midfield which seems to suit the girls.

Alice, Maddie and Beth had a busy day, but dug deep and kept up the effort through game to deal with the Burbage attacks. The three girls are really learning to work as a unit. Emmi had a great game once again, and really commanded her area, coming out to take the ball early on a number of occasions.

With the full squad Rugby were able to rotate during the game, which really helped the midfield. Katie and El, did a good job controlling the centre of the pitch and breaking up Burbage attacks and also getting the ball forward for Rugby to attack. Lola again added her enthusiasm and did some great work supporting the attack as well has some great throw-ins…her long throws are a nice option. Elisa again put a lot of effort in today, and made a number of key passes and tackles. Sophia in only her second ever game, continued to show her great attitude, and it is clear she is quickly learning the game.

Amelia and Jess both had a strong game today, and their speed and high work rate, kept the Burbage defence on their toes all day. Unfortunately they didn’t get the reward they deserved. However they both didn’t get frustrated and fought for every chance right up to the final whistle. Matilda played much of the game in a position just off the striker and had 3 or 4 great opportunities to break the deadlock. She really caused the opposition defence some heart stopping moments, however it was clearly one of those days where it just won’t go in!

Right up until the final whistle, both teams were still looking for 3pts, but despite the exciting game, it ended 0-0.
