Squad: Anya, Chloe, Freya, Jasmine, Olivia, Ruby, Louise
Sponsor: Inspiron
The fourth away game of the season and a journey to Rothwell for an 11:00 kick off, very easy to find Montsaye Academy with the excellent directions provided by Tristan.
Rugby had a depleted squad for the game so it was always going to be a tough one with no substitutes available and also the goalkeeper not available. Rugby did have a special guest supporter for the game with coach Jason in attendance.
Jasmine started in goal and was soon called into action with an Aztecs shot just going wide. Ruby then had a good run forward and just after had a shot well saved by the Aztecs goalkeeper after another good run down the right wing. Rugby were starting to get more into the game and were putting together some good attacking moves.
A corner went straight across and Rugby were unlucky that nobody could get onto the end of it. Just after an Aztecs corner caused a scramble in the penalty area but was well cleared by the defence.
Into the second half and Rugby started well, they had 2 corners early on that were well cleared by the Aztecs defenders. Rugby also had a change of goalkeeper in the second half with Louise taking over the gloves from Jasmine.
Rugby then had another corner and the ball was cleared just past the edge of the area, Freya collected the ball and took a great shot that resulted in a goal.
Aztecs started to come back into the game and scored after a scramble from a corner. Olivia and Freya continued to defend really well with some great clearances. Anya also made some solid tackles in midfield to breakdown Aztec attacks.
Rugby started to tire in the second half which resulted in Aztecs getting more chances particularly from the right wing. Aztecs were also gaining in confidence and taking more shots. As the game opened up Chloe had a good run forward but it was well defended by Aztces.
Rugby worked really hard again for the whole game but it was always going to be difficult with no substitutes to give the girls a rest. Louise also did well during the second half making a couple of saves.
Player of the match – Freya
Thanks to Tristan & Brett for their coaching during the game, to FC Aztecs for a great game, to the referee and to all the parents for their ongoing support.
