Harborough Town vs Rugby Town Girls U15

Sunday 24th October

Squad: Ellie, Tash, Ava, Liv, Hannah, Izzy, Cara, Kelsey, Sophie, Lucy, Sophia (Captain) Ella, Sophia K

Sponsor: Lisa Collins Hairdesign

Kicking into a stiff breeze, Rugby had a spot of bother getting the ball up the pitch. Kelsey and Liv up front had a couple of opportunities for forward runs, but some good defensive work and wide shots prevented Rugby getting on the score sheet in the first half.

The midfield saw a lot of action in today’s game. Losing Hannah to an injury saw a switch up in midfield but saw our subs now reduced to one.

Some defensive mishaps were quite rightly capitalized on by the home team and Rugby went into the break trailing 3 goals.

The second half saw the wind in our favour and the onus on Rugby to quickly reduce the deficit. Rugby were seeing more action in the final third and came close to scoring several times.

Another injury saw Sophie coming off the pitch with a nasty cut to her mouth. The team on the pitch now had to see out the game.

Finally, a nice long ball found Kelsey who opened the score line. Further goals from Tash, Ava and Kelsey saw the noise and enthusiasm pick up the Rugby team and they were playing some good football.

Corners were delivered very well indeed by Tash and we were unlucky not to score from at least one of them.

Summary

Harborough Town 5 – 4 Rugby Town (Kelsey (2), Tash, Ava)

Despite a very exciting final 10 minutes, Rugby just left it a little late to recover fully from the first half. A couple of injuries also impacted the available players.

Parents player: Ava, a determined performance, and a beautiful goal from distance

Coaches’ player: Sophie, for a strong, sensible defensive performance

Thank you to the all the U15 parents for your support and Keith for running the line.
