Rugby Town Girls U13 vs Groby Juniors

“Top Marks for Effort!”

Groby entered the game on the back of a 6-0 win and unbeaten in their previous 13 games. In contrast we have promoted 5 players to the year above and lost an additional 3 players from last season. So…a new look team in their first game who narrowly lost when in the oppositions coaches words “…great game, that could have gone either way!” is real testament to how far they’ve come in such a short space of time.

In an end-to-end game with few clear cut chances it came down to simply taking one and Groby on this occasion were the team to come out on top. We matched them for long spells, working incredibly hard to pressure our opponents into mistakes and were quick to break into attack. We were perhaps a little guilty of not releasing the ball with the split passes and through balls we’d practiced so hard on in training and as we tired ball retention was a factor. However, with more training and time together this will come and the girls confidence and understanding will improve.

All the girls were fantastic but player of the match was Sophie L for a solid display at the heart of defence.

Thanks to James for running the line, Kuni’s Coffee as kit sponsor and all those parents in attendance for your support.
