Rugby Town Girls U10 vs Burbage U10

Sunday 6th June

This cup game was very competitive with lots of good tackles by both sides.  The game settled down and Rugby had a lot of possession but couldn’t create a clear goal scoring opportunity.  With Rugby’s defence holding tight and both Chloe and Sophia shooting just wide this meant the first half closed all square.

The second half continued in the same manner with Burbage continuing to use the long throw-in to great success.  In the last 10 minutes Burbage had a throw in; with a monster throw the ball found the back of the net, luckily for Rugby Town nobody got a touch and the goal was rightly disallowed.

Despite a number of shots on target the Burbage goalie used her legs, arms, hands and even her face to great effect and blocked all attempts.  When the final whistle went, we were down to penalties!

Burbage stepped up first with a well taken penalty just to the keepers left (0 v 1)

Sophia smashed hers home in unstoppable fashion (1 v 1)

Burbage stepped up and smashed the penalty to the keepers left (1 v 2)

Anya slotted hers home to the keepers left (2 v 2)

Burbage stepped up and smashed the penalty off the post just dropping in (2 v 3)

Ruby stepped up knowing it was all on her and without a care in the world stuck it in the bottom left-hand corner.   (3 V 3)

Sudden death – This raises the pressure on Megan in goal and on the players.

Burbage stepped up and smashed the penalty down the middle with Megan standing up well and batting the ball out.

It was all down to Ava and as she took the long walk from halfway to the spot the pressure was on she went for power rather than placement and it nestled in the back of the net (4 v 3)

With a cheer the girls all ran to celebrate a tricky cup game and enjoy the win

What a great game!  Rugby Town U10’s now move onto the next round of the cup!

Big thanks to all the parents for cheering (a crowd of over 60 people watched the shoot out just to add to the pressure)

Burbage were a great side that pushed us all the way and we hope to play them again in the near future.
