Rugby Town Girls U11 Lionesses vs Albert Village U11

The u11s Lionesses restarted their season by hosting Albert Village. RT brought an 8 girl squad to the field, and they were clearly keen to get back on the pitch.

RT got off to a great start, and had the visitors on the back foot early on. Christabel led the line supported by Lola and Matilda. The three pronged attack immediately put the pressure on the visitors and this was quickly rewarded. Throughout the game the three girls worked hard as an attacking unit, making good runs off the ball and linking up well. Christabel was dominant in the final third, and forced a number of errors in the visitors defence, which were capitalised on.

Likewise Matilda made many strong runs, allowing others to find space, as well as some fantastic crosses and was very creative. Lola also made both good runs off the ball, but also created a number of her own chances, by winning possession from the opposition and was rewarded.

Katie started in the holding midfield role and covered every inch of the pitch to break up the visitors attacking play and also feeding the RT forwards. Likewise Emmi also performed well in this role, making a number of good tackles and getting the ball forward. Due to the demands of this role both Katie and Emmi rotated throughout the game in order to keep themselves fresh, as we only had the one substitute. Both players linked the flow of play well, and equally supported the attack and aided the defence.

Eleanor and Beth partnered up defence and both worked well together and both put in a great shifts and used their strength to clear threats, but also to mark the visitor’s attacking players.

Ria was between the sticks for the majority of the game and pulled off a number of great saves, and distributed the ball well and commanded her area. Towards the end of the game Beth rotated into goal, to give Ria a leg stretch, and Ria played a strong roll in the centre to close out a game.

The game was very high tempo and both sides gave a great performance right up to the final whistle.

The girls worked hard and clearly enjoyed the opportunity to put into practice, all their efforts on the training pitch.
