Press Release 13th July 2020
£2,450 to help Rugby Town Girls and Women FC during the current COVID-19 Pandemic
RTGWFC, Rugby’s longest established female football club, has been awarded £2,450 of National Lottery funding from Sport England’s Community Emergency Fund towards ensuring our club is in a sound financial position to move forward once current restrictions, imposed during the on-going COVID-19 pandemic, are lifted.
The outbreak of the virus and the consequent shutdown of businesses as of March 23rd has left the sport and physical activity sector facing a period of uncertainty.
In response, on March 31 Sport England announced a £195m package to help the sport and physical activity sector through covid-19. Within the package is a £20m Community Emergency Fund, of National Lottery money to deliver immediate funding to those who have a role in supporting the nation to be active but are experiencing short-term financial hardship or the ceasing of operations due to the impact of Coronavirus.
The grant will allow RTGWFC to ensure we are up to date with any outstanding invoices, cover any loss of sponsor revenue and review membership fees during this time of hardship.
Jason Morris, RTGWFC Club Chairman, said:
“The grant from Sport England will go a long way to covering costs encountered at the end of the 2019/20 season. The grant will be put to the best use possible to benefit current and new members via our “Football for ALL” slogan. We want as many children and adults to enjoy sport. Our club was one of many that was awarded the grant to enable the kick start of members returning once the FA confirm it is safe and appropriate to do so. We promise a big push in helping Sport England get every person, who would like to play sport, the opportunity to do so. We look forwards to reuniting with our members very soon. Please like our Facebook page to receive up to date club information”
Tim Hollingsworth, Sport England’s Chief Executive, said:
“As the body responsible for the growth of sports and physical activity participation, we want the vital grassroots organisations that make sport and physical activity happen in this country to not just come through this crisis but to be in a position to thrive again in the future. The £20m Community Emergency Fund, made possible by National Lottery players is part of a multi million-pound package of support we are providing to ease the pressure on a huge number of the organisations who are central to the nations’ health and well being.
We are proud to be able to provide vital funding to Rugby Town Girls and Women FC to help it through these extremely challenging times”
