Volunteers and Members of Rugby Town Girls & Ladies FC

Dear volunteers and members of Rugby Town Girls FC

Firstly, I would like to express my thanks to you all for creating a great evening for all our members at the annual awards evening on Friday night.  It was the biggest club event to date and it ran so well thanks to Jill and an army of volunteers on the night and of course the members for providing the celebrations.

A decision was made not to write to you before the event, as we wanted to ensure the night was about our members and nothing else.  Each and every one the members, volunteers and committee members deserve the recognition.

With record numbers of girls having trials at WSL clubs and premier clubs, we are extremely proud to have players go on to play for Leicester, Aston Villa, Coventry United, Newcastle, Birmingham City, Brighton, Milton Keynes and Nottingham Forest. Long may this continue!  However, we also work hard to ensure we look after every girl who would like to just play football. Every member matters to this club.

This season we had 11 teams, with 160+ players, and continued to grow each week.  With the Women’s World Cup, we can expect more interest from girls in the local area, being inspired to play football and we would expect the club, over the next 2 years to be able to fill both Kilsby Land and Butlin Road venues on a Friday night. Our desire was to provide training facilities for a growing club, which requires planning.  Introducing a 2nd venue as every venue would allow us to extend capacity. We want Friday evenings in Rugby to be known as Girls football night.

There have been many rumours about the club in recent weeks, all by outside influences, as an investigation is currently ongoing, it would have been inappropriate for us to discuss the issues before now.  Unfortunately, there has been some undignified action taking place recently by parties not associated with Rugby Town Girls. We have refused to be drawn into negative conversations which may threaten the children’s enjoyment of football.

Certainly in the short term, all coaching will be at Rugby Town FC, Butlin Road, Rugby. We had planned to continue the same usage we have done for the past 10 years at Kilsby Lane in playing matches and also increasing this with more teams in addition to using the Butlin Road facility. However, we have no problem accommodating every member at Butlin Road if required.

We may still resolve the hurdles of the club using two Football Foundation venues at the same time for the good of girls and women’s football in Rugby.  We will of course communicate any developments when able.

I would like to highlight the main points:

·        every member and every team will still be given increased coaching space and pitches to play matches (astro or grass options)

·        members will have access to quality coaching delivered by dedicated FA Qualified coached and a passionate group of volunteers.
