Asfordby u8s Diamonds vs Rugby Town Girls u8s Wildcats

Team – Megan, Freya, Matilda, Holly, Anna (c), Anya, Maddie and Chloe.

The u8s Wildcats faced Asfordby u8s Diamonds in their first away game of 2019 and spirits were high after a brilliant game last week.

Matilda returned to take up her role in goal and made some excellent saves against a tricky attacking side, Holly and Megan were strong against the opposition breaking up the play and moving the ball forward for Freya and Chloe to run on to. The Asfordby defence was just as strong blocking everything the girls threw at them.

Anna replaced Megan mid-way through the first half and carried on from her performance last week, battling hard and moving the ball into the opposition half. Maddie replaced Chloe shortly after and played some great passing moves to her team mates. Anya replaced Freya and ran brilliantly with the ball again the defence stood firm as the first half drew to a close.

Megan replaced Matilda in goal in the second half, her goal kicks causing problems for Asfordby and made some very impressive saves throughout the second half. The Wildcats were battling hard again, Holly reading the game well and breaking up play to release the ball to Maddie with Freya and Chloe tirelessly pressuring the Asfordby team, their defence and goalkeeper again playing well.

Matilda replaced Chloe and slotted in perfectly, running with the ball and passing the ball well to the other girls. Maddie replaced Anna and battled hard against a strong attack. Anya replaced Freya and ran well with the ball down the wing, always seeming composed when running at the defence.

Three quick fire goals by the opposition didn’t seem to deter the girls and they continued to battle hard and with only minutes to go managed themselves to pull two back, if only we had a few more minutes I’m sure the result would have been different.

As always the determination from every player in this team never ceases to amaze me, their courage, bravery and constant smiling always makes it a pleasure to both coach and watch. Well done girls!!
Referees player of the week was Megan this week, well done Megan!
