Coalville Town Girls u11s v Rugby Town Girls u11s

On a wet and dreary morning this game was lit up by some delightful football from the u11s. With Melissa missing through a training injury, Marley started the game up front and she proved a real handful for the Coalville defence.

The midfield of Madi, Holly and Jasmine combined to make up lots of goal mouth chances and the pressure finally paid off with Marley on hand to kick off the scoring.

Coalville came back into the game and started to make chances of their own. Their two forwards kept Rosie and Katie on their toes with their darting runs and on the occasions they slipped their markers, they could have been on level terms with better finishing. However when they did get a shot on target, Jenna proved again what a good keeper she is by making some good stops.

Lila had now come on as a sub and Rugby were again playing some good passing football. Holly in particular was having a really good game and her tackling and passing had to be admired. Jasmine and Madi were seeing a lot of the ball out on the wings and after picking up a loose defensive ball, Jasmine cut inside the penalty area and scored with her right foot. Just before half time Jasmine nearly increased the lead but her shot came back off the post with the keeper beaten.

The second half kicked off with Coalville playing down the slope and the rain was still falling. Coalville got rewarded early on when Rugby lost the ball in midfield and fed their tall forward who hit a fine cross shot past an exposed Jenna. The goal lifted Coalville and they started to make more chances only to find Jenna pulling off some smart and brave saves.

It was now end to end football with Rugby also making chances and the corner count was heavily in their favour as they got back into their stride.

A bizarre goal then put some light between the two teams as a shot from Lila came back off the cross bar only to strike the Coalville goalkeeper on her back and end up in the net.

The goal took the wind out of Coalville and calmed Rugby down. They once again got into their passing and moving game as they created more and more chances to try and increase their lead. Coalville were now tiring and were not posing such a threat up front and Jasmine finally put the game out of reach with another good strike from the edge of the area.

A really good game of football between two sides considering the weather and the state and size of the pitch.
