AFC Market Bosworth u10s v Rugby Town Girls u10s

Rugby Town Girls u10s travelled to Market Bosworth on a bright day with their biggest squad of the season so far having been joined by some new players. This meant that there was a regular rotation of subs during the game.

The game started brightly and Rugby were playing nicely and looked confident. A moment of confusion led to Market Bosworth taking the lead.

However it was clear Rugby were not letting it get them down and continued to play well. Isobel and Connie continued their strong partnership. Both made some great tackles when they were on he pitch and have learned to identify the threat early. They have also learned to play it safe when necessary. This has been important as often facing some much bigger opposition in this older league.

Bethany started playing alone in midfield and was doing well to try and support the attack but to also put early pressure on the opposition when they had possession.

Due to the game only being 6-aside. This meant a lot of ground to cover for this lone role so was regularly rotated to keep legs fresh.

Up front another well formed partnership of Poppy and Sofia started well, and they have really started to learn to support each other with off the ball runs. Both girls made some great runs and dribbles. On another day, they could have had a couple of goals between them.

Hev and Hav continued in their shared role of keeper and both made some great saves throughout the game. Their distribution was also very good. It is clear they have grown in confidence between the sticks. They both also had outfield time and were very physical and used their strength very well in midfield.

It was nice to see the return of Ella along with the new players Aurora and Katie. Ella slotted into the defence well as part of a rotation and played well breaking up attacks and marking well.

Aurora in her first game rotated in well with Poppy and Sofia and made some great attacking moves and will be a great addition to the attack.

Katie who was also making her debut, played in midfield and it was clear that her high level of fitness allowed her to run box to box. She supported the attack well, but also got back to defend when necessary.

Rugby did concede a second, however the result did not do the game justice. It was very competitive and both teams were very even. Rugby were very unlucky to not to get on the score sheet today.

Coaches ‘Girl of the game’ : Connie.

It was a real tough choice with so many great performances. But she showed great bravery and calmness.

Parents ‘Girl of the game’ : Katie due to great work rate in midfield for her first ever game.
