In the last two weeks the Under 16s have had back to back matches against Groby Town, a consistent performer in recent years.
30th September
The girls applied themselves really well and stuck to the passing principles practiced in training. The game was fairly even until Rugby conceded a couple of first half goals from corners. From that point Groby grew stronger and the Rugby defence was constantly under a lot of pressure and three more goals followed as Groby stretched their lead to 5-0. Rugby didn’t give up and kept going until the end and pulled a goal back with a superb lost distance strike from Hollie.
A special mention to Kerri who stepped in as goal keeper for the day and pulled off some great saves.
Player of the match was Hollie, who put in a tremendous amount of work and was rewarded with a great goal.

As per the previous week Rugby started off well and were a match for Groby. But as the game progressed, Groby’s forwards came into the game with their strength and pace starting to cause Rugby problems. As per the previous week the pressure began to tell and the goals came. Groby scored four goals before Chloe pulled one back to make the half time score 4-1 to Groby. Despite having a good amount of possession, things did not go well for Rugby in the second half. Rugby scored two own goals, there was a goal scored when a Groby player turned her back on the ball and it went in off her back, it just wasn’t our day. Groby maintained their strength and stamina in the second half as Rugby began to tire a bit. Having said that, Rugby still had plenty of possession and attacks but just couldn’t find a way through the strong Groby defence.
A tough day for the girls, with a score line which was a bit harsh in the end.
Player of the match Eggy who put in a strong performance in defence.
