Rugby Town Girls U11 Wildcats v Oadby and Wigston U11 Sunday 30th September
Rugby Town Squad: Poppy (C) Izzy, Josephine, Emma, Sophie, Lois, Francis, Ava, Lily
Another guest coaching spot for me this morning, looking after our U11 Wildcats side in their third ever game together.
First Half
Rugby started strong with Poppy and Ava working well together to move the ball up field. Oadby were certainly up for a bit of counter attack and had several periods during the first half where they really put the Rugby defence keeper under pressure.
Lily had an excellent first half in goal and really displayed some impressive skills and excellent command of the goal mouth with great communication with her defenders.
The Rugby throw ins were very good, especially from Ava, who provided some great football throughout the entire game. Good work down the wing, allowing for some very productive play from the Rugby throw ins.
Izzy and Poppy struck up a good partnership, and Izzy’s speed and positioning allowed her to provide some very good passes to Poppy in the numerous attacks on the Oadby defence and goal.
Lois had a great half on the right wing, her commitment and willingness to get involved was fantastic to see and she worked really hard whenever she was on the pitch.
Sophie, Emma and Josephine worked very well in defence together, quickly shutting down any Oadby attacks. Some of the cross goal clearances scared me a bit but I should have had more faith in the girls and they were very calm and confident in their play.
Second Half
Lily swapped out for Francis in goal and did a great job in defending an Oadby corner. Francis had an excellent half in goal, displaying great skills and communication. The team are lucky to have two such great goal keepers!
Poppy and Lois really put the effort in to the midfield play, Lois also getting to opportunity to delivery some fine corners for Rugby. Josephine was very determined in defence and her positional play showed great awareness.
Oadby were still keen to push Rugby back, but the Rugby team stood firm. Izzy made an excellent clearance with a very polished header allowing Rugby to move back up field quickly.
Rugby won several free kicks, including a direct free kick in a very interesting position.
The team’s deliveries of corners, free kicks and throw ins were all taken very well in indeed.
I was very impressed with the quality of play shown by the team; they are already forming a very cohesive unit with excellent communication. I predict good things for them.
Thank you to the girls for letting me manage you today. I had a lot of fun and really enjoyed watching you play some great football. Keep up the great work!
Thank you to the parents for your support and thank you Tony for referring our game.
