Last Sunday saw the U15s have their last foray into competitive football before moving up an age group & saying goodbye to some players who won’t be with us next season.
An early start for the morning element to the nationwide tournament at Woburn Lioness’ saw most of the team arrive still blurry eyed.
2 teams entered by the club, Orange & White, were drawn into separate leagues of 6 teams. With the tournament attracting teams from Cardiff, Manchester, Sussex, Essex, Luton Town & Watford Academies, as well as a multitude of local Beds & Bucks league teams, we knew it was going to be a tough mornings football. This proved to be true with all teams being tough and very physical, with one team playing to Australian rules football Laws, which Kerri found out first, much to her displeasure and pain.
At the end of the league matches saw the white team finish mid table and the orange team missing the semi-finals by 1 point, or 1 goal.
All girls enjoyed the morning and really enjoyed playing against teams “out of area” which gives them the chance to gauge their ability against teams they don’t meet during the league season.
The U15s section was won’t by Garston Lioness’ who beat City Belles Blues (from Milton Keynes) in the final.
We’ll done to Amber from the U14s for guesting for us and playing fantastically in goal and on pitch, even though in her words, they’re a lot harder and tougher than I’m used to. But I learnt a lot.
Thank you to Tina “Southgate” Wilkins who made her managerial debut with the white team and coped superbly. Thank you to all the players for the blood, sweat, tears & most importantly lots of laughs throughout the tournament and the whole season. Thank you to all the parents for the early morning wake ups to get to Woburn in time.
