AFC Leicester Girls u10s 0 v 4 Rugby Town Girls u10s Cup Semi-Final

The U10’s put together one of their best performances of the season to secure a place in the League Cup Final against a formidable Leicester side who had beaten us 4-1 the last time we met.

On a very poor pitch, the opening minutes belonged to Leicester before Rugby started to get into their stride and make openings themselves. They created some very good scoring opportunities before Mellisa found the net from close range. Back came Leicester but Marley and Katie were steadfast in defence and Jenna pulled off some excellent saves.

Jenna’s long kicks were causing the Leicester defence all sorts of problems while the midfield of Lila, Jasmine and Madi worked really hard to create more chances before Jasmine broke clear on the left and smashed an unstoppable shot past the Leicester goalie.

The second half saw Leicester change tactics by playing two strikers up front and trying to find them with long balls down the centre but they found no way past Marley and Katie who were both having a splendid game. As for Rugby, Holly came on for the injured Mellisa and they continued to make more chances at the other end and should have added to their tally before Lila scored straight from a corner. Madi then got on the score sheet to wrap up the game as a contest. Poppy and Rosie came on to bring some fresh legs to the side and the whole team battled right to the end, epitomised by Poppy who took the ball fully in the face for her efforts and still carried on playing !!

A great team performance from all concerned that has made us coaches very proud. You all deserve it, well done.

So many good individual performances too, which made choices so hard but………..
