Oadby and Wigston u15s v Rugby Town Girls u15s League Cup

Sponsored by Jim Worthington After 4 attempts to play this game, the teams finally came together at a cold but bright and sunny Meadow Sports ground. The main talking point for the girls before the match was the debut appearance of their new tracksuits.

With some unavailability for Rugby they decided to try a different formation. For the 1st 10 minutes Oadby looked to be strolling the game while Rugby tried to settle and get back into playing after only 1 game in the last 9 weeks and took the lead. This proved to be the wakeup call Rugby needed and the new formation started to work. Lauren scored after 15 minutes, at the 25-minute mark Hollie hit a screamer from 25 yards into the top the net.

A goal that wouldn’t have looked out of place at a Ladies match. Lauren then bagged her 2nd a couple of minutes later to deflate Oadby. Unfortunately, Rugby didn’t kill the game off at that point and just before half time Oadby scored to make it 3-2 at half time.

The break did Oadby the world of good and the game out fighting in the 2nd half netting 2 goals in the first 10 minutes. This is when the weather changed dramatically, black clouds suddenly appeared, and hail and snow storms resulted in a couple of stoppages in play as vision was impossible.

Just before 20 minutes of play in the 2nd half the largest storm descended resulting in a pitch that was impossible to see and run on due to hail stones covering it. At this point the referee decided to play anymore would be impossible and dangerous for the girls and abandoned the game with 20 minutes to play and the score 4 3 to Oadby.

We look forward to the next episode of the League Cup in trying to get the game played in full.
