The team arrived at Marlborough Rovers today in good spirits with the way the season is progressing. The scoreline was much closer than last week when the 2 teams also faced each other but it was a very committed performance with many of the players relishing a physical game.
Molly scored in the first half to put the team 1-0 up at half time. Charlotte, Savannah & Lexy defended resolutely & with determination, Megan constantly putting pressure on defenders & driving forwards.
Molly scored again in the second half after good work up the right by Megan & Erin but then Marlborough got a goal back & they became much more confident & managed to equalise. The Rugby Town players heads did not go down & Molly embarked on another trademark dribble within a couple of minutes to put Rugby Town back in the lead.
The defence did not look under pressure again & there were a few more chances to add more goals with the girls working for each other to see out the match.
Well done to the whole squad who all played a part again, once again players trying different roles & learning more especially Erin & Josiane, who played in a new midfield role covering space in front of the defence & moving the ball forward.
Result: Rugby Town Girls FC 3-2 Marlborough Rovers
Goals: Molly x 3
Player of the match awarded to Charlotte
