Cosby United U15’s v Rugby Town Girls FC U15’s

The first game of the season for the U15s & they travelled to Cosby Utd who last season won our league unbeaten. Unfortunately, due to unavailability, injury & sickness, we travelled with only 10 players. The object of this game was consolidation, enjoy the game & learn something.

These young ladies did this & a lot more!!!

Cosby were expecting to breeze this match & were met by a strong willed unit who have developed into a very able & strong team. Rugby played down a slight slope in the first half & shocked the home team by taking the lead with Lauren bagging her first of the season. This evaporated all the nerves in the team and management, Rugby grew in confidence, whilst Cosby’s disappeared. The 10 players of Rugby used the philosophy of the best form of defence is attack. After racing into a 8-0 half time lead the Cosby players & manager looked confused and shell-shocked.

In the 2nd half, Rugby continued to attack despite playing uphill. Cosby grabbed a goal & suddenly realised that they could play football & started to grow in confidence but Rugby hit back with 3 more goals. A penalty to Cosby was the last goal of the game.

Rugby lost 2 more players to injury finishing the game with 8 players on the pitch. Every single one of the Rugby players gave every ounce of energy they had but still managed to finish the game with a smile on their face. Nothing more could be asked of any of the players, truly inspirational.

Well done girls, great start to the season but we move on to the next game and go again.

Final score
